Workshop for innovative hand-crafted clarinets
HistoryAfter two years of collaboration, Werner Schwenk - master woodwind instrument maker, and Jochen Seggelke - clarinetist and woodwind instrument maker, set up a company together in 1995. Based in Tübingen (Baden-Württemberg) and Bamberg (Bavaria), their objective was to combine innovative concepts with traditional craftsmanship.
The ever increasing demand for their cleverly designed instruments made it necessary to merge their workshops. In 1999 they moved into the premises of a former leather factory, situated in the center of the picturesque city of Bamberg. Today SCHWENK & SEGGELKE employ 9 people in Bamberg, and work with a number of independent specialists.
MissionThe combined experience of professional craftsmanship and musicianship results in an entirely different approach to instrument making.
SCHWENK & SEGGELKE take clarinet development seriously. Historic landmarks are linked to modern demands and possibilities. The musician is granted a professional tool for their artistry.
During their first year in Bamberg SCHWENK & SEGGELKE submitted their newly developed clarinet to the competition organized by the German institute for musical instrument making. Although the instrument had not yet had a chance to profit from extensive testing, it was placed second best! This was reason enough to place it on the market. Today, 8 years later, over 500 instruments of this type are played all over the world.

ProductsSCHWENK & SEGGELKE are the only clarinet makers in the world to offer a range of period clarinets, i.e. copies of historic landmarks of the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as an extensive selection of modern clarinets. All instruments from our workshop are crafted individually and in accordance with the customer's specifications.
Over 12 years of experience with musicians from all over the world have lead us to offer our clarinets in 3 entirely different types of bore and body dimensions. Apart from a large German bore (which is also the base for the Model 3000 and the Vienna model), we offer a narrow German bore, as well as a French bore. Similarly our key systems offer many possibilities to choose from. Click on Our Clarinets - Bore Types for more details.
German clarinettists playing alongside those of other clarinet cultures?! To help overcome this hurdle SCHWENK & SEGGELKE have developed a clarinet combining German sound with French fingering: the Model 3000. This instrument sounds much more like a German clarinet than conventional Reform Boehm instruments. The Model 3000 is now available in the full range from the C to the bass clarinet. Click on Boehm System Clarinets for more information.
AccessoriesWe regard the reed, mouthpiece, and instrument as an inseparable system. Mouthpieces and reeds made to SCHWENK & SEGGELKE's specifications will help our customers find the individual combination that works best for them.
